Encroachments removed from furniture market

Chandigarh:The enforcement wing of the Municipal Corporation,on Thursday,removed encroachments from Furniture market in Sector 34 and adjoining areas. During the drive,50 challans were issued to violators and the enforcement team seized a total of seven truck loads of furniture items. Over the past few days the civic body has held several drives in Sectors 22 and 19 as well.

Owner of jewellery store commits suicide

Chandigarh:The owner of a jewelry store,AB Diamond jeweler,ended his life by hanging himself at his Sector 34 residence on Thursday. Police are yet to ascertain the reason of suicide as no note was found from the spot. The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Gupta.

2 killed,4 injured in two bike accidents

Ambala:Two bikers were killed and four on pillion were injured in two separate road accidents in Barara sub-division of Ambala district on Wednesday night. Sheesh Pal (45) resident of village Dukheri was killed in a head on accident with a tractor trailer,his brother Balbir,riding pillion was injured. Another biker involved in the accident was also injured. In another accident between two bikes,one person identified as Mehar Singh,resident of Talheri village,was killed when another bike driven by Gurdip,with two pillion riders,hit Mehar’s bike. Mehar was rushed to MM Hospital in Mullana where he died during treatment. The injured were admitted to the hospital.

Class IV employee dies in car collision

Chandigarh:A motorcyclist was killed after a collision with a car on Wednesday night at the dividing road of Sector 42 and Sector 36. Anil Kumar,driver of the car,was allegedly intoxicated and has allegedly been charged in 30 cases. The deceased,Sikandar (32),was a class IV employee in Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

Library,dipensary inaugurated

Chandigarh:A public library was inaugurated at Mauli Jagran village by UT home Secretary Anil Kumar Thursday. The library is a joint venture of the Panchayat department and UT Education Department with the objective to spread knowledge and give easy access to books,magazines and newspapers. A rural dispensary was also inaugurated in Raipur Khurd village ,Chandigarh. Another such dispensary will be made operation next month in Khudda Alisher village.

UIET students come first at VIMANTRA’12

Chandigarh:Three students of University Institute of Engineering Technology at Panjab University won first prize and Rs 50,000 at VIMANTRA ’12. The ninth Annual National Level Technical Paper Contest organised by National Instruments with a research paper on Semi-Automatic Vehicle was open to both students and research scholars pursuing post graduate studies.
