City’s first woman station house officer

CHANDIGARH: Poonam Dilawari,42,took over on Thursday as Chandigarh Police’s first woman Station House Officer. Inspector Poonam Dilawari,mother of two,took charge of Sector 3’s Police Station after Inspector Mahavir Singh retired. “Being the first woman SHO,I have a responsibility as my success would bring more and more women cops to important posts,” said,thanking senior officers for showing faith in her. Earlier,she was a public relations officer with Chandigarh Police. She joined as assistant sub-inspector in 1991,was promoted to sub-inspector in 1996 and was made inspector in June 2010. She had been in charge of the police posts in Sector 42 ISBT,Sector 24,Palsora,Maloya,Sector 49 and Dhanas,and also handled the planning and computer branch.

Stricter laws for gardens,parks

CHANDIGARH: Parking,bicycles,games and pets will be banned in the city’s greenbelts,gardens and parks,according to bylaws passed by the Municipal Corporation’s environment and beautification committee. Violators will be fined up to Rs 1,000,besides being made to pay for the damage done.

Power cuts

CHANDIGARH: Power supply to these areas will remain suspended on Friday:

9 am-3 pm: Shastri Nagar,Farm Houses in Manimajra.

10 am- 2 pm: Parts of Subhash Nagar and Manimajra.
