Chandigarh: A resident of Maloya set his wife on fire at their residence on Sunday night. The police have arrested Harbhans Singh in a case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the IPC. The accused,an autorickshaw driver,suspected his wife of infidelity and set her on fire,the police said. The couple had been married for 18 years and have three children.

Sharp rift between nominated,elected MC councillors

Chandigarh: Differences seem to have started appearing between nominated and elected councillors of the Municipal Corporation. One reason for this is that with the increase in the number of Congress councillors,the need for votes of the nominated councillors for election of the Mayor has decreased. Differences arose between the councillors over the issue of framing new bylaws for community centres during the House Meet on Friday. Mayor Anu Chatrath had constituted a committee to bring about changes in the bylaws of the community centres.
