City anchor: Smooth launch of e-filing,half a dozen petitions filed, accepted

In a smooth and glitch-free first step towards becoming the paperless high court in India, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Monday accepted e-petitions in half a dozen cases, mostly pertaining to tax and company matters.

In a smooth and glitch-free first step towards becoming the paperless high court in India, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Monday accepted e-petitions in half a dozen cases, mostly pertaining to tax and company matters.

After scrutiny, the filing branch issued to the lawyers the receipt numbers, date and Bench before which their cases will come up for hearing.

The court, meanwhile, also launched additional facilities for the benefit of litigants, general public and lawyers. Now,a litigant can obtain a list of all the cases pertaining to all districts of Punjab and Haryana filed in the high court. Till now,one could search the cases by punching in details of the lawyer, the judge, date of decision or case number. But now,one can search a case by typing in the FIR number or the name of the district to which the case belongs.

Also, one can access the “display board” of all the courts in the high court sitting at home. Till now, this facility was only available on the court premises. A tab of display board has been added to the High Court website (www.highcourtchd.gov.in). The display board shows the case number being heard by a Bench. The status will be updated after every few seconds.

In yet another major relief for lawyers, the status of interim orders has also been made available on the website. Till now,it was only the final judgments, status of which, could be known by a lawyer or a litigant. This facility has also been extended to a dozen touch machines installed a year back on the court premises to give instant information of the status of interim orders. If the orders are ready for dispatch, the machines also inform as to how much amount one has to pay,as fee,for the orders.

Until now,one could not find out the status of one’s case not yet cleared for hearing. But now,the website will provide information immediately after a case has been filed. A click on the option of “filing search” will apprise the litigant the status of his case as to whether it has been accepted or objections have been raised by the branch.

It may be mentioned here that the branches, tasked with supply of orders,co-ordinated amongst themselves to provide final orders with immediate effect.
