A chemist shop was found running without a licensee in Dera Bassi on Monday. District Drugs Inspector (DDI) Ramandeep Kaur,in a joint operation with the local police, recovered huge cache of habit forming drugs, mostly intoxicants, from the shop. During the raid in the presence of Dera Bassi SHO Ranjodh Singh, the DDI found that the person,on whose name the licence of the shop was issued, was not present at the shop while a pharmacist, who was shown as hired, was present. As the pharmacist failed to call the licensee,it was presumed that he might had procured the licence on a proxy name, which created suspicion over his credentials, said Kaur.
The search yielded 5,100 tablets,2,200 capsules and 10 bottles of different types of anti-diarrhoea,pain killer and cough syrups, which were Scheduled H drugs and commonly used for intoxication purposes.
The DDI revealed that the pharmacist failed to produce any valid record of sale and purchase of the recovered drugs, following which a challan was issued under Section 22 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act,1940. The case has been forwarded to the State Drugs Controller for initiating necessary action, she said, while adding that the violation attracts suspension or even cancellation of the drugs license. She said the ongoing drive to check the unethical sale and purchase of intoxicant drugs will continue.
