Chargesheet against DSP Raka Ghirra

The CBI on Friday filed a chargesheet in the Special CBI court in the corruption case against Punjab Police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raka Ghirra.

The CBI on Friday filed a chargesheet in the Special CBI court in the corruption case against Punjab Police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raka Ghirra.

She had been charged with criminal conspiracy and under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The CBI has not named Manmohan Singh,who was then Ghirra’s reader in the chargesheet as his application to become an approver in the case was accepted by the court on April 20. Singh was also arrested along with Ghirra in the case.

The case dates back to July last year,when Ghirra,who was then posted as DSP in Mohali,was arrested from a residence in Sector 15 by the anti-corruption branch of CBI for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The CBI sleuths had laid a trap at her residence on the complaint of a builder.

The complaint against her was filed by Krishna Kumar Malhotra who alleged that the DSP had demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from him to settle the investigation in the complaint against Malhotra in a land dispute case in Mullanpur village. He was accused of certain irregularities related to the land.
