Chandumajra eyes Fatehgarh Sahib, sitting MLA cries foul

The Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra is all set to contest the ensuing Punjab polls from the newly carved Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra is all set to contest the ensuing Punjab polls from the newly carved Fatehgarh Sahib Assembly constituency.

Chandumajra has reportedly started a brisk campaign in the constituency to mobilise local leaders in his favour.

In the 2007 Assembly polls,Chandumajra had contested from Lehra Gaga constituency against Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and had lost to her by a narrow margin of 248 votes.

Sources in the SAD claim that the Fatehgarh Sahib ticket for Chandumajra is almost final.

The development, however, has not gone down well with sitting Akali MLA from Sirhind,Didar Singh Bhatti, who was also eyeing the Fatehgarh Sahib constituency.

“Chandumajra has virtually invaded my constituency. It is a classic case of might is right.

“I was not even informed by him or the party, let alone taking me into any kind of confidence before Chandumajra started his activities. I have taken up the matter with party president Sukhbir Badal,” Bhatti said over phone on Monday.

An unfazed Chandumajra, however, said the constituencies did not belong to anyone.

“A constituency is not any leader’s personal or ancestral property. It is the wish of the party. I can go to any place where the party wants me to go,” he added.

“Moreover,Fatehgarh Sahib is the region from where I basically hail from,” he reasoned.

Chandumajra, the native villages of the Akali stalwart,is on the border of Fatehgarh Sahib and Rajpura assembly constituency, but geographically falls in the latter.
