Chandigarh teams on course for hat-trick of titles

Chandigarh boys and girls remained unbeaten in their respective matches in all the three categories- singles,doubles and triples- to march into the final in all the categories of the 2nd Senior men/women National FootballTennis Federation Cup tournament that commenced at Dusshera ground on Saturday.

En route to the final,the Chandigarh boys and girls maintained their winning momentum and looked good to win couple of titles. A total of eight teams from various states are taking part in the two-day sport event.

Earlier,in the girls’ singles matches,Chandigarh outplayed Haryana,2-0,to stake their claim for the title. The Chandigarh eves then registered an identical 2-0 victory over Odisha to maintain their winning momentum.

In the doubles section,the city eves defeated Tamil Nadu,2-0,to stay on top. Then,in the triple section,they first defeated Odisha,2-0,and then returned to outclass Punjab,2-0,to make it two wins in as many matches.

On the other hand,the Chandigarh men were impressive too. In the singles section,the city men team defeated Odisha,2-0,and later went on to register an identical 2-0 win over Punjab to remain favourites for the title.

In the doubles section,the Chandigarh men defeated Delhi,2-1,in a thrilling encounter. They took the confidence into the triples section matches also as they first defeated Maharashtra,2-0,and then returned to torment Punjab and beat them 2-0,to maintain their unbeaten run.

Meanwhile,on the opening ceremony,national founder of FootballTennis (AIFTA) Ram Avtar announced that Neeraj Bharti will be heading the Himachal Pradesh unit of the association (HPFTA). He was also appointed as patron of All India FootballTennis Association (AIFTA).
