The three-day annual Chandigarh Carnival concluded today. If aliens ruled last years carnival,this year it was the world of magic that pulled lakhs of Tricity residents to Leisure Valley,Sector 10.
Today people from all walks of life made a beeline to catch a glimpse of life-size magical characters.
This year,the carnival with the theme,magic city,come explore the magical world,turned out to be more much more popular as compared to the previous one with a substantially high footfall on the three days. This year over 2.5 lakh people visited during the three-day carnival.
Be it the magic shows on all three days or the free entry to the carnival unlike in the previous year,people from all walks of life came calling even from neighbouring states. Many foreigners were also seen enjoying the rides and Indian cuisine at food stalls.
People were dancing,matching steps with the music played in the background. Kids enjoyed camel rides,swings and joyrides.
Around 100 students of Government College of Arts,Sector 10,were engaged in making the colourful floats on the theme science. The results of the best five floats were announced today. The prizes were bagged by five teams headed by Kashmir Singh,Kuldeep Singh,Hamit Soni,Ajmer Singh and Imanpreet Singh.
The concluding day had the perfect ending with the soulful and popular rendition of songs by Punjabi singer-cum-actor,Harbhajan Maan.
Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi organised an on the spot competition during the event. The subject was Chandigarh Carnival 2011,first prize of Rs 10,000 was bagged by Niharika Singh,2nd Prize Rs 5000 went to Ankit Awasthi and 3rd Prize of Rs 3000 bagged by Aushi Swami. Three consolation prizes of Rs 1000 each were bagged by Deepak Arora and Randeep Singh.
The Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi also held on-the-spot competitions in Poem and Slogan Writing. Several enthusiastic participants submitted their entries for the Funny Poem/Mini Poem Contest on the themes Pyar ka Thappad and Pehli Nazar.
Prizes for outstanding entries were given to Rahul Choudhary,Aditi Bisht,VK Bhardwaj and Manika. In the Slogan Writing Competition the entry submitted by Swapna Kanaujia was awarded the first prize. Aina Arora and Devinder Aggarwal received prizes for the couplet contest held yesterday.
