Close on the heels of the CBI moving court for seeking cancellation of bails of the 7 accused in the Harpreet Kaur murder case, the Central agency on Saturday moved another application before the Special CBI court here, restraining the main complainant,Kanwaljit Singh, from leaving the country.

Taking cognisance of the CBI plea,Special CBI Judge Balbir Singh issued a notice of motion to the state and Kanwaljit Singh for September 10.

Fearing that Kanwaljit Singh might flee the country, the CBI moved the fresh plea before the court for restraining Kanwaljit Singh from leaving the country, till the pendency of the present case.

Even though Kanwaljit has been declared ‘hostile’ by the CBI,it is seeking action against him for misleading the court after he backtracked from his statements made before the court pertaining to the present case.

The CBI stated in their plea moved through counsel S K Saxena and R K Handa that they apprehend that Kanwaljit Singh might run away from the country as he was trying to procure a visa for going abroad. In this regard, his passport may be confiscated and he may be directed not to leave the country for anywhere abroad till the pendency of the present case.

Meanwhile, the CBI also examined one Jaswinder Singh,an employee of Spice Telecom, who had presented the telephone records of the mobile phones of Bibi Jagir Kaur and Dalwinder Kaur Dhesi, both accused in the case.

The CBI tried to establish the link between the two through their mobile call details on April 20,2000,when Harpreet Kaur had died. Call details of March 18,200 were also compared by the CBI. the Cross-examination of Jaswinder Singh is on.
