CBI arrests cop for demanding bribe

Sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday arrested a constable with the Chandigarh Police on charges of demanding illegal gratification from a local resident.

Sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested a constable with the Chandigarh Police on charges of demanding illegal gratification from a local resident.

Jeetinder Singh,a constable with the technical cell of the Chandigarh Police,was caught red-handed from his residence in police colony. He was taking Rs 15,000 from a local resident who owns a mobile phone booth.

The complainant had approached the CBI after he had alleged that Singh was demanding Rs 15,000 from him not to foist a false case on him. A trap was laid by the CBI sleuths late in the evening and Singh was arrested.

The complainant had alleged that Singh had demanded the bribe for not registering a case of theft against him as a mobile phone belonging to a local resident was found at his shop.

The owner of the mobile phone had got a complaint lodged with the police. After it was put on surveillance,the mobile phone was traced and found from the complainant’s booth. The complainant alleged that some unknown person had sold the mobile phone to him.

Singh will be produced before the special CBI court on Saturday.
