The Ferozepur district police on Wednesday registered another criminal case against Ravinder Singh Sandhu aka Babbal, who is contesting as an Independent candidate from the Ferozepur constituency in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha polls.

Babbal, his son Rojpal Singh Sandhu and his accomplice Baldev Chander, were booked on charges of assault, criminal tresspass and rioting following a complaint lodged by a news channel. In the FIR,the news channel has alleged that Babbal and others had trespassed in an “open debate” — an event organised by the channel — in Ferozepur and assaulted people attending the event.

The complaint also mentioned that the channel had invited three candidates of recognised political parties — Congress,BJP and PPP — for the open debate. While Babbal was never invited for the event,he allegedly barged in with his supporters and created ruckus during the one-minute break taken by the channel while shooting the event.

Earlier,Babbal had been booked on charges of assault and rioting on a complaint lodged by Congress candidate Parminder Singh Pinky.
