Cartful of Indie Music

Earlier this year,e-commerce website Flipkart launched Flyte,a store for downloadable digital content.

Earlier this year,e-commerce website Flipkart launched Flyte,a store for downloadable digital content. Over a million songs in languages such as English,Hindi,Telugu,Punjabi,Oriya,Assamese,Spanish and Italian became available for download in MP3 format, with single songs available for as low as Rs 6 and albums for Rs 25. However, even in this wide variety, there seemed to be one glaring omission — independent Indian artistes who have been attracting the attention the world over, were still underrepresented.

That, however, has changed as Nh7.in,a platform for indie artistes, has partnered with Flipkart to launch a section on the latter’s music store, dedicated exclusively to indie music. “Nh7.in on Flyte will bring together the country’s independent artistes across all genres on one platform, and Flipkart has made it easier than searching for the torrent of your favourite neighbourhood artiste,” says Vijay Nair,CEO,Only Much Louder, the parent company of Nh7.in.

“Both, the store on Flipkart and Nh7.in will actively promote this music to the ever-growing community of indie fans. While piracy is a big problem for mainstream music, fans of independent music want to support the artistes by buying their music,” adds Shreyas Srinivasan,co-founder,Nh7.in.
