Car mows down pedestrian

A speeding Maruti Alto car mowed down a pedestrian Jasvir Singh,18,of Lambian village,adjoining Sector 69,Mohali,in Phase VII here late last night. Jasvir,who was learning a mechanic’s job at a workshop in Phase VII,was walking back home from work with his uncle Varinder Singh and colleague Gurmukh Singh of Lambian. When they reached near PCL Chowk at around 11.15 pm,a recklessly driven car ran over him and sped away. Only the make of the car was recorded before it fled the spot. The seriously injured victim was rushed to Fortis Hospital,from where he was shifted to Chandigarh PGIMER,where he succumbed to his injuries,the Investigating Officer (IO) Phool Chand said. The police have lodged a case for causing death by rash and negligent driving under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC against the unknown car driver but no clues of the accused were found as yet,the IO said.
