Company issues
Vehemently contesting on behalf of his client,Baljinder Singh alias Talla who is facing life imprisonment on charges of murder of his wife,a lawyer argued,My Lord, grant him bail, children need company of their father.
The Judge quipped,What about the women he has so many pictures with, they also need his company.
Highly dismissive of the regular bail sought by Talla, the High Court rejected the bail.
Tallas closeness with a local model had earned him wider publicity after he was held guilty of murdering his wife.
The rankings race
With the admission scene at its peak, the claims by different institutes and colleges in the region of being the best do not end at the results,cut-offs or the alumni list.
They have been caught by a recent race to be on the top through surveys conducted by various private research companies, websites and magazines.
Surprisingly, beyond the rankings which these education institutes claim, many are clueless even about the research company or the details of the survey.
The legal goof-up
A sitting Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, who stays in Sector 9,was issued a challan by the Chandigarh Traffic Police, for jumping the red-signal in Sector 36 on May 18. The challan chit, bearing the name of the Judge, carried a fine of Rs 300 for the traffic violation, asking the Judge to pay the fine.
However, the traffic police did not realise that the white colour Hyundai Accent car, which committed the traffic violation had already been sold by the Judge to somebody else and that too five years ago. While the records in the RLA stand updated and show the vehicle being sold to another person; it appears that the traffic police is yet to update its database,so that such a goof-up does not happen in future.
One can imagine the fate of such traffic police officials, who had sent a wrong challan in the Judges name to his residence,by post, for committing the violation, which he never did.
Blame old age
There could be various reasons for disappointment being faced by the visitors to the lion safari in Chhatbir zoo,but the concerned officials are putting all that on the age of two pairs of lion – all that the zoo has.
The field director, when asked about the lions not showing up in the safari, most of the times when people visit to catch a glimpse of the king of the jungle, said,There are only two pairs.
While one is too aged (about 20 years old) and does not move much; the other pair is too young (about 3 years old) which also does not come out of bushes.
