A traffic cop said, “There are a few categories, including driving without licence, driving while using mobile phones, in which the penalty was enhanced from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000. We are confused how much to slap fine on the violators.”
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Alok Kumar inspected pubs and bars operating on Commercial Street and Church Street on Sunday night and later paid surprise visits to different police stations in the Central Business District area.
Since a four-hour-long traffic jam on June 21 following a spell of heavy rain in the IT corridor in Cyberabad area of Hyderabad, the Cyberabad Traffic Police has started issuing advisories to office-goers, primarily in the IT field, to either leave work an hour before peak traffic or leave later if rain is anticipated.
Between January 1 and September 10 this year, these two junctions accounted for eight fatal and 16 non-fatal accidents. All the cases relating to these accidents are registered at the Sector 49 police station.
