When musician Siddharth Sharma sat down for some brainstorming to name his two-man musical outfit,he could only think of one thing how music filled him up,how it left him in awe and wonder and thus struck the name Buddha. Because his body of work is based on the stereo sound,Stereo Buddha sounded like the perfect moniker.
Project Stereo Buddha started,on a casual basis in June 2010,just to vent creativity, says Delhi-based Sharma, who is in the city to compose the background score for Dr Gaurav Chhabras film on 50 years of Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research,Chandigarh. We are working on a soundtrack that is cinematic, has the elements of a motion picture and ambient sounds, he adds.
Electronic, new age and dance-trance music are what Sharma plays with and, after Project Stereo Buddha,he realised the need for versatility. The roots of the sound for Stereo Buddha stem from various genres and cultures including ambient,down-tempo,experimental,industrial,Oriental and Vedic, says Sharma.
He produces, composes and plays several instruments, and will be joined by Shubhangi Tewari on vocals. Sharma has also pursued music and worked with international artistes in London. This is the first project we are working on since I returned from England two months ago, says Sharma, referring to the film on PGI. He is now looking forward to a tour that bypasses clubs and pubs and is held at places where people actually listen to music not just sip on it. There is an album planned, too, and we have made two songs, he concludes.
