Gulzar Akhara to honour wrestlers
Gulzar Wrestling Akhara will honour its three wrestlers who reached the victory podium in the Commonwealth Youth Wrestling Championship held at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Center in Singapore on January 7 and 8. Giving this information here today,Sports Authority of India coach RS Kundu said the winners would be felicitated on January 17 at 9 am at Gulzar Akhara in Zirakpur. Santosh Kumar Yadav and Pardeep Singh claimed gold medals in the 50 kg and 76 kg categories,respectively. Prabhpal Singh bagged silver medal in the 85 kg category. They are all products of Gulzar Wrestling Akhara.India also won a bronze medal through Gurpreet Dhillon who fought in the 100 kg category. Indian finished third in the men’s team championship with 32 points behind South Africa (60 points) and Canada (37 points). Pakistan got fourth place with 26 points.

National Cross Country event on Jan 31
National Cross Country Championship will be held on January 31. Interested athletes from Chandigarh can contact UT athletics coach SK Joshi on January 15 at 10 am at Sports Complex,Sector 7,for the selection of the team.

Football tourney from Jan 18
Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars Football Tournament organised by High Life Management Calcutta,will be held on January 18 and 19 at the Sector 17 Football Stadium. Players born after September 1,1994 are eligible to take part in the seven-a-side tournament. If any player is found overage,the whole team will be suspended from the tournament. Each team will consist of 10 players,seven as playing and three as substitutes. Rolling substitution will be allowed. There is no entry fee and a school can field two teams. Entries close on January 16.

T-10 gully cricket from Jan 19
Ludhiana: After conducting the preliminary selection and intra-city matches,’T-10 Gully Cricket: Season 2,Ab Har Koi Khelega’ a dedicated multi-city talent hunt cum social initiative,will commence its final leg of matches from January 19 to February 3 at Sirsa,Haryana. The Group,Super 8,semifinals and final will be played at Jan Nayak Chaudhary Devi Lal National Cricket Academy,Sirsa. These matches will be played amidst players from Nashik,Latur,Surat,Daman,Allahabad,Lucknow,Kanpur,Gwalior,Amritsar,Jalandhar,Panchkula,Ludhiana,Gorakhpur,Varanasi,Ballia,Patna and Sirsa. The event will kick off with the opening game between the last year’s finalist Ludhiana and this season’s debutant team Amritsar.
