Meet on electoral reforms today
A regional consultation for electoral reforms will be held on Saturday at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy,Sector 43. The event will be attended by M Veerappa Moily,Law Minister; Salman Khursheed,Minister for Minority Affairs and Water Resources; SY Quraishi,Chief Election Commissioner; Pawan Bansal,Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs. Shivraj Patil,Governor of Punjab; Chief Minister of Haryana,Bhupinder Sigh Hooda; Manish Tewari,National Spokesperson,All India Congress Committee; Mohan Jain,Additional Solicitor General of India will also be present.
Sikh bodies want SAD members expelled
Much to the embarrassment of the ruling party,five Sikh bodies,namely Khalsa Action Committee,Dal Khalsa,AISSF,SAD (Panch Pardani) and Sikh Students Federation,today asked the
Shiromani Akali Dal leadership to sack former DGP Izhar Alam and ex-SP Surjit Singh from the primary membership of the Shiromani Akali Dal as both were responsible for the killing of four youths 25 years ago on this day. A convention in memory of all four was organized at Gurdwara Litran. Ravinder Singh Littran,Bhai Harminder Singh Sham Chaurasi,Bhai Baldhir Singh Fauji and Bhai Jhalman Singh,who were office bearers of All India Sikh Students Federation,were gunned down at Nakodar on Feb 4,1986 while they were protesting against the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib by some miscreants.
Seven Pak prisoners released
Seven Pakistani prisoners,including a 16-year-old boy Mohammad Qureshi,were on Friday released by India to their home country from the Attari border check post. One amongst them,Mohammad Tariqe,was arrested in a smuggling act and the others were arrested for over-staying their visa terms. They were lodged in various jails and as their terms had ended,they were today handed over to Pakistan Rangers by Border Security Force.
