Tarn Taran attack: DGP says officials should seek police help for raids
Amritsar: Punjab Director General of Police PS Gill on Friday advised officials of all the departments to seek help of the police before carrying out raids against black-marketeers,hoarders and defaulters. He was referring to an unsavory incident in Tarn Taran where shopkeepers thrashed two government officers and their staff who raided their shops following complaints of adulteration.
It is not good to blame the police always. The government officers should take the help from the police before swooping upon those who are indulging in illegal activities, he said.
Harpreet murder: CFSL scientist examined
Patiala: A senior scientific officer of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL),Delhi,was on Friday examined in the special CBI court here while resuming the hearing in the Harpreet Kaur murder case. The CFSL scientist Deepak Kumar Tanwar told the court that he had examined the video recording of Kanwaljit Singhs interview and conversation with Zee TV at the time,favouring the present case. He added that he had prepared a transcript of the same and presented the same before the court.
Minor girl alleges attempt to rape
Ludhiana: A nine-year-old girl studying at an RBC centre run under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan near Moga has alleged attempt to rape at the hands of the centres security guard and his son. The Kot Isse Khan police have arrested the guard of the centre while the son is absconding.
Residents stop work on national highway
Ludhiana: The residents of Khanna today blocked traffic at G T Road Khanna in the afternoon and burnt the effigy of Sukhdev Singh Libra,Member Parliament from Khanna. The residents were demanding under-passage for three roads where they intercept the national Highway.
Heroin worth Rs 20 crore seized
Ludhiana: Border security force seized 4 kg of heroin worth Rs 20 crore in Ferozepur on Thursday night. The seizure has been made from Jagdishpur post of BSF by 143 battalion. Giving details,Rakesh Gupta,DIG BSF,said that the seizure was made at night using night vision devices.

3 Amritsar police stations get ISO certificates
Amritsar: Punjab Director General of Police PS Gill on Friday awarded ISO 9001:2008 certificates to three police stations of Amritsar Police Commissionerate for the professional functioning as per the aspirations of the people. The DGP visited police stations A-Division,D-Division and Cantonment for dedicating the ISO certificates to the police stations.
Bath tells officials to be responsive to NRIs
Chandigarh: Balbir Singh Bath,NRI Affairs Minister Punjab,while presiding over a meeting of the officers of the departments of NRI Affairs,Home,Revenue and Police,has asked the civil and police officers of the state to immediately respond to the grievances of NRIs so that they are not harassed and their grievances are redressed. He said that the government has initiated many new steps for the welfare of the NRIs in the state.
