Drugs worth Rs 9 lakh seized from chemist shop in Kharar
Mohali:
A huge consignment of drugs worth Rs 9 lakh was recovered during a surprise raid at an unauthorised chemist store in Kharar on Tuesday. The raid was conducted by District Drugs Inspector Amit Duggal. In an official statement issued on Wednesday,Mohali Civil Surgeon P K Sridhar said the raid was part of a drive to check illegal sale and storage of habit-forming intoxicant drugs. The drive has been initiated by the Punjab Health and Family Welfare Ministry. Source said the drugs were recovered from the shop,which did not have the license to store Schedule H drugs. The chemist was booked under various sections of Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Chandigarh scientist gets Home Minister award
Chandigarh:
Central Forensic Science Laboratory scientist MC Joshi was felicitated with the Union Home Minister Award on Wednesday for his meritorious services. He received the award at the 21st All India Forensic Science Conference at Aurangabad. Joshi is the deputy government examiner of Questioned Documents at the laboratory and has more than 25 years of experience in the field of forensic document examination including examination of security documents and counterfeit currency.

Wipro’s Mission10X joins hands with PTU
Mohali:
MISSION10X,a non-profit trust launched by Wipro to enhance the skills of engineering graduates,has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab Technical University (PTU) on Wednesday to facilitate its initiatives across the state. The agreement will be in force for three years. Launched in September 2007,the trust has already empowered more than 11,000 faculty members across the country. Nagarjuna S,head of Mission10X,said: “We have developed a unique learning approach that enables faculty to make a student understand finer details of a subject with development of key behavioral skills.” PTU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajneesh Arora said: “At PTU,we always strive to enhance the skills and knowledge of our students as we realize that it is the faculty members who bear the responsibility of inculcating that.”

Mohali resident gets state award
Mohali:
Parmdeep Singh,a resident of Bhabat village in Mohali,was felicitated by the state government on International Disabled Day for his services. Singh,who is the president of Punjab Disabled Persons’ Welfare Organisation,received the award from State Social Welfare Minister Swarna Ram in Jalandhar on Wednesday.

CM to hold sangat darshans in Mohali
Mohali:
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will hold sangat darshan (direct interaction with public) programmes at Gharuan and Sohana village in Mohali on December 31 and January 2. Deputy Commissioner Parveen Kumar on Wednesday asked all department heads to be present at both the programmes and also update records of their respective departments .

District Cong chief’s father passes away
Chandigarh:
Surinder Singh,father of District Congress Committee (Urban) president H S Lucky,died on Wednesday. He was 64 and was ill for some time now. The cremation would take place at the cremation ground in Sector 25 on Thursday at 2 pm.
