Saanjh begins today

Amritsar: The Seventh Amritsar Lahore Festival — Saanjh — will be organised here on November 12 and 13. Saanjh is a culture exchange programme between Indian and Pakistan,which gives artistes a common platform to perform. The programme is organised in collaboration with Rafi Peer Theatre Group,Lahore,represented by Dr Kirat Sandhu Cheema and Saleema Hashmi,a noted painter from Pakistan. Addressing the media here,Hashmi,who is also the daughter of noted poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz,said people-to-people contact was a must for promotion of peace between India and Pakistan.

Sangrur first district with computerised land records

sangrur: Sangrur has earned the distinction of being the first district in the state to have all its land records computerised. Within a month,anyone across the world can have access to the district’s land records at the click of a mouse,through the Internet. Announcing this here on Thursday,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the plan was to have all land records across the state computerised by March 31,2011,and thereafter make them available to the public on the Web. The deputy CM said the move was to help eradicate corrupt practices in the revenue department.
