First -ever ‘Masroor festival’ from tomorrow

Dharmashala: The first-ever ‘Masroor Festival’ in the precincts of the rock-cut temple will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on December 21. The festival will now be an annual affair. Announcing this here,Arun Sharma,Director tourism said the initiative was part of the state government’s efforts to have the structures declared a World Heritage Site. He added that around Rs 4 crore was being spent to develop the area around the temple.

Patiala man kills woman,attempts suicide

Patiala: A man allegedly killed a woman by attacking her with a sharp edged weapon in Baradari gardens here on Monday. The women,identified as Harpreet Kaur,died on the spot after Ranjit Singh attacked her with an axe,police said. Ranjit later tried to commit suicide but survived and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police said Ranjit was not in a position to speak,but had written on a piece of paper that Harpreet owed him Rs 2 lakh and was not returning the money and so he attacked her.

Sarabjit’s sister meets his Pak lawyer

Amritsar: Dalbir Kaur,the sister of Sarabjit Singh,an Indian national convicted and sentenced to death in Pakistan for allegedly being involved in terrorists attack,met his lawyer Awais Sheikh in Amritsar on Monday. Sheikh updated her about the case. Kaur said the lawyer had also brought a letter from her brother addressed to all Congress and BJP leaders at the Centre appealing to them to take up his case with the Pakistan government.

E-help desk for NRIs at Jalandhar

Jalandhar: In a novel initiative,the state government has set up a electronic help desk at office of Commissioner,Jalandhar Division,to assist the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) who come here to get their documents embossed. Anurag Verma,Commissioner,Jalandhar Division,said that on an average 25 to 30 documents reach his office everyday for embossing and the move was to reduce the trouble faced by NRIs.
