Dalit boy found dead,police suspect honour killing

LUDHIANA: A 23-year-old Dalit youth was found murdered at Ladhaike village in Moga district. The body was found on Wednesday but the police claim the crime was committed a day earlier and suspect it to be honour killing. The body has been identified as that of Inderjeet Singh. The post mortem was conducted this afternoon and the body has been handed over to the family. The post-mortem examination showed Inderjeet received multiple injuries on his body,particularly on the head,which could have led to his death. “The youth was attacked with sharp-edged weapons,” Baghapurana DSP Gurmeet Singh said. As per the preliminary investigation,Inderjeet received a phone call on his while he was at home on Tuesday. “While talking on the phone, Inderjeet went out and did not return,” his father Nachattar Singh said.

Defence pensioners to get accounts details online

AMRITSAR: Defence pensioners will now be able to get details about their pension amount being paid every month via SMS and email. This is part of ‘Ashray’ project started by the Controller General of Defence Accounts. “This facility will be provided to the defence pensioners,defence civilian pensioners and family pensioners on monthly basis. The details of monthly pension payment will also be available from CGDA on the website http://www.cgda.nic.in under heading “pensioners corner’’,a press release said.

‘Pollutants from Pak poisoning Sutlej’

LUDHIANA: Hundreds of fish have died under mysterious circumstances in the Sutlej near Muhar Jamsher village in Fazilka. The canal department has stated that pollutants coming from Pakistan may be the reason for water contamination in this village but still they have no clear cut reason for the poisonous water. “A few villages along the border often suffer from water contamination and the primary reason is pollutants coming from Pakistan side. Industrial units are operational across the border as well. The district administration is responsible for pond cleanliness,” SDO Amarjeet Singh said.

Himachal Kisan Sabha demand

SHIMLA: Himachal Kisan Sabha,an organisation of the farmers and fruit growers,have sought an immediate intervention of the state government to stop Agriculture Produce Market Committee from charging Rs 7 from the apple growers who are bringing their produce to the market. “There is complete exploitation of the growers even at the local markets and despite having sent several representations to the government,the growers are not getting any relief,” said Kuldeep Tanwar,president of the Kisan Sabha.
