Patiala: Four army men,all of the Lance Naik rank,were on Sunday roughed up residents of Baba Deep Singh Nagar in Bathinda,the police said. Residents allege that the Army personnel had come to a house in the locality which according to them was known for the “flesh trade”. Before police reached the spot,area residents slapped,punched and rained blows on the army men. “No case was registered since no girl was found in the house during a police search. The army men were handed over to their senior officials,” said SHO Sandeep Singh.

1 held for firing outside Punjabi University

Patiala: The local police on Sunday arrested a Shutrana resident,Amarinder Singh,in connection with the firing incident outside Punjabi University,Patiala during a clash between two student unions on September 20 that had left four injured. Police have already arrested two people,Amarinder Singh Cheema,a Patiala resident and Jashanpreet Singh,a resident of Urban Estate,Patiala in connection with the incident. Patiala SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill said a Fortuner and an Indica used in the crime had been recovered along with two .32 bore pistols possessed by the accused illegally.

Punjab to exchange animals with Pak

CHandigarh: To promote a friendship campaign with Pakistan,the state government has initiated a unique programme in which birds from the wild life sanctuaries in Punjab will be sent to sanctuaries in Pakistan and vice-versa. An official spokesman of the Punjab Government on Sunday said an official delegation of the Forest and Wild Life Protection department will visit sanctuaries in Pakistan to finalise the programme to bring rare species back to the state. He said a resolution had been passed in this regard at a high-level meeting of state wild life board presided over by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
