A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men on the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road in a car, held captive for three hours, before being pushed out of the vehicle. On Wednesday afternoon, the Faridabad Police arrested two men hailing from Uttar Pradesh in connection with the case.

The incident took place between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s sister, the woman had left home after a quarrel with her mother. She was returning from a friend’s house and accepted a lift offered by two men in a Maruti Suzuki Eeco van in Faridabad as she could not find other transport.

The complaint alleged that the accused allegedly took the woman towards the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road, where they gangraped her inside the vehicle as it moved through isolated stretches amid dense fog.

She was allegedly held captive for nearly three hours. Around 3-4 am on Tuesday, the men pushed her out of the moving van, leaving her with severe facial and head injuries.

Police sources, however, said the crime was committed when the vehicle was stationary. When the accused threw her out of the car, she landed on some concrete debris, leading to the injuries, they said.

The woman, who was living separately from her husband for a while, contacted her sister who rushed her to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital in Faridabad, police said.

The complainant said that she required 12 stitches and was admitted to the hospital after her condition was reported as critical. On Tuesday, she was deemed unfit to record a police statement by doctors at the hospital.

Based on the complaint filed by the sister, an FIR was registered at the Kotwali police station under sections 70(1) (gangrape with adult woman), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police said a crime branch team had detained the two suspects on Tuesday evening, and recovered the van. They are being questioned, with the test identification parade still pending given the woman’s mental state.
