Two killed in two assault cases

Chandigarh: At least two persons died and three others sustained injuries in two separate cases of assault,which took place in Karnal district late on Monday. Nilokheri village resident Ram Chander was allegedly murdered by his friend Nitin,when he objected to Nitins lewd text messages. In another case,one Vikrant was killed when two groups clashed in Gharaunda. In his complaint to the police,Vikrants brother Vikas had alleged that while he,along with his brothers and friends,were participating in a kirtan,a group of youth approached them and stabbed Vikrant. In both the cases,the Karnal police has registered cases on charges of murder and attempt to murder.

Brakel committed fraud,admits govt

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday admitted that Brakel company,a Netherland-based hydro-power venture,which was allotted 960 MW Jangi Thopan Powari project in Kinnaur district had committed fraud and state’s vigilance and anti-corruption bureau have recommended for registration of a case against the company. In reply to a question by Congress MLA GS Bali,the government laid some documents in the House,which reveals that the government,instead of registering a criminal case,had re-allotted the project

CPM protest ,accuses BJP of corruption

Shimla: The CPM and CPI held anti-corruption rallies across Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday accusing the ruling BJP of having double standards in its fight against corruption. Tikender Panwar,member of the CPM secretariat,said: The BJP in the state is synonymous with the Jaypee group of industries. The BJP has been bribed to dole out concessions for opening private universities,he added.
