Rate for land purchased for forests doubled
The Punjab government has decided to double the compensation for land sold for expansion of forests. Forest and Wildlife Security Minister Arunesh Shakir said accepting the demands of farmers,the government has increased the amount reserved for one acre to Rs 10 lakh from Rs 5 lakh.
He said the reduction in forest areas due to urbanisation and industrialisation during the past couple of years,had forced the state government to introduce a programme to increase forest cover by acquiring land.
Rs 62.5 cr for kandi area
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal approved a development plan of Rs 62.5 crore for the kandi area,covering 1,408 villages. A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting held under his chairmanship here late Saturday evening. The CM has asked all the MLAs and district administrations concerned to submit comprehensive reports of various works under this scheme.
