To decongest traffic, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) will undertake the widening of a bridge on the Sector 7/18 road of Panchkula. This was decided at the meeting of the Core Committee of Senior Officers of Chandigarh,Haryana and Punjab which was held on Friday under the chairmanship of UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas. HUDA will also construct a retaining wall on both sides of a seasonal nallah, the cost of which will be shared on a proportionate basis by the UT Administration and HUDA. The UT Administration also plans to construct a rotary near Mauli Jagran village on the road connecting Sector 17/18,Panchkula,to Madhya Marg. UT Chief Engineer Krishanjit Singh will conduct a feasibility study for construction of a rail overbridge there. Niwas also directed the UT Chief Engineer and HUDA Chief Engineer to check the feasibility of the proposed widening and strengthening of the existing PWD road dividing Sector 1 and 2 and the one leading to IT Park through Kishangarh village. He also directed the officials concerned to study additional road connectivity between Chandigarh and Panchkula parallel to Madhya Marg and Dakshin Marg. It was also decided that entry of heavy traffic from Pinjore will be diverted from the Old Panchkula Junction towards Zirakpur during peak hours,to avoid congestion on Madhya Marg. UT Finance Secretary-cum-Secretary Engineering Sanjay Kumar said the road link from the airport to Panchkula was being four-laned and this work was likely to be completed by the end of March.
