Take a short & special summer sojourn

It’s personal and private. From the destination to the travel itinerary, budget to the stay,it’s getting personalized, with more and more travel operators, holiday companies and tourism corporations customizing holidays to individual needs and requirements. At a recent Kerala Tourism promotion initiative, which showcased the splendour of God’s own country, presenting the diverse range of locales in the state,on-the-spot,value-for-money and individual packages were being offered by representatives of various hotels, resorts, palaces, ayurvedic centres at the venue itself. Branded under the Dream Season Campaign,short-break itineraries for budget and high-end travellers were at hand, each place offering a sanctuary for your soul. Most people, agreed representatives from Kumarakom Lake Resort and CGH Earth, come to them with a clear perspective of what they are looking for in a holiday of about a week, stressing the fact that it’s no more a mad rush to do sightseeing or shopping, but a mix of relaxation and exploring the destination,up and close. Beaches, spice village, coconut lagoon, spice coast cruises, ayurvedic treatments…there’s so much at hand and from culinary experiences to giving travellers a taste of Kerala’s culture and tradition,we work around preferences and budgets, keeping in mind the family or individual traveller,’’ Shailendran M shares the summer 2009 CGH Earth Super Saver package.

Six days in Switzerland, all packed and prepared for women who want to beat the heat and get straight to the Swiss Alps is what Sumitra Senapaty has launched new for the Women On Wanderlust. Designed to give each member a unique experience, some of the highlights include visits to Matterhorn,Switzerland’s icon mountain, taking a ride on the highest railway in Europe and terminating the trip at the tip of the majestic Jungfrau. “Women want leisure and comfort and not frenzied sightseeing, the inputs I got from fellow travellers. So soaking in the natural beauty, staying at centrally located places are some of the must-haves for them. Also we wanted to move beyond the recognized and selected places with care. And as most are working women,a six-day haul was the ideal getaway,’’ shares Sumitra.

With holiday becoming a part of life and not restricted to just summer any more, travellers are looking for an intimate experience in the destination they choose,“so be it New Zealand,Australia,Bangkok,we pack in what they want and how they want,’’ smiles Kapil Khanna of Ekido Travels.

The initial and major holiday planning is now first done at home, points out Ashish Kishore, head of hotel and retail business,Yatra.com,an online travel company, which has holiday lounges across the country. With travellers becoming aware of what they want and doing a great deal of research before they come to travel operators, adds Ashish, has infused practicality in the travel itinerary. “A well-informed traveller,be it through television, travel magazines, newspapers comes to us for the functionalities of the travel and the best deals that we can offer,’’ Kishore says from Internet orientations, videos, exact hotel locales, online research,data-base they use it all to build a perfect package. As for the trend this season, says Kishore,is that that long hauls have been replaced by shorter ones, with the serious buyer negotiating well on hotel rates, which have dropped continuously since February. “The customer is the king and we have to match up with his needs,’’ sums up Ashish. Bon Voyage!
