Bling it on!

It's sweet homecoming and also a stylish one at that. But before we welcome them in,here's a quick recap.

After successful runs at the fashion weeks, this designer duo comes home to launch own studio

It’s sweet homecoming and also a stylish one at that. But before we welcome them in,here’s a quick recap. For a couple of years now fashion designers Mini Sondhi and Jessie Sabir Singh have been hard at work away from home. The former classmates teamed up the minute they graduated from NIIFT Mohali, packed their bags and moved to the glitzy metros where they were hired by A-list designers such as Manish Gupta,Gunjan and Rahul. The two even stitched up designer wear for labels such as ‘Not So Serious’ and had collections retailed out of high-end stores like ‘Ensemble’,’Aza’,’Collage’,’Mogra’…After four seasons at the FDCI fashion weeks, another two at Lakme Fashion Week and two showcases at ‘Vivah’,Mini and Jessie decided to take a breather. “The heat and the work pressure was gruelling,” Mini mentions who remembers working as long as 15 hours for the designers. “We realised that the metros apart, cities like Chandigarh and Panchkula were equally fashion focussed and could do with a design studio and we could work as hard for ourselves,” pitches in Jessie. And that’s how ‘Bling Bling’ was born. Their few days old fashion studio, tucked away in Manimajra,is where now all the action is! “The label stands out for its name and that’s how we want our work to be,” chorus the duo who are joined in by Mini’s sister Ashita Sondhi who’s worked as a design manager in Bangalore in the venture.

Now that you know who they are, here’s what they are good at. “At Bling Bling,we aim to fulfill all your sartorial needs,” the ladies tell us. While trousseau wear is their USP,the designers are great at ideating looks for both Indian as well as Western wear. “We can whip up designs best suited for someone keeping in mind the trends for the season,” mentioned Jessie as we noticed the racks already boasting of chic tunics, dressy sarees and more hip everyday wear with no exaggerated emphasis on bling, thankfully! “Having worked in the industry,we are well versed with sourcing fabrics, embellishments, trims and have a dedicated tailoring unit as well as master darzis on our rolls,” Mini informs as Ashita further pitches in,”We have skilled embroiders including one from UAE working for us.” Apart from their signature collection,Bling Bling is also showcasing its Spring Summer 2009 line and will soon roll out menswear. “The design studio will also house some creations by designers such as Atsu,Reena Ahanthem and Shaheen,” Ashita lets us know. Now that’s a houseful!
