Recent elections at the mandal and district levels have left certain sections of the party discontent
The BJP will hold elections for the post of the president of its city unit on Monday. The need has arisen due to discontent among some factions of the party over the elections held at the mandal and district levels.
The candidates in the fray are Sanjay Tandon, general secretary of the party, and Ramvir Bhatti,vice-chairman of the Market Committee of the Grin Market. BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy will be the election observer.
Though the election process began a month ago,a section of the party, which was not satisfied with the way the polls were conducted, sent a number of complaints to the party high command. They were unhappy as elections were not held in all mandals; of the 32 mandals, elections were held only in 23.
An allegation being levelled is that one group in the party ensured that elections in all mandals were not held and got their loyalists elected in the remaining.
As per the party constitution,if 50 per cent of mandal elections is completed, the election for the district presidents post can take place. But this has not happened earlier. Conducting elections sends a good message that equal representation is given to all, a senior party leader said on the condition of anonymity.
In Mondays elections,38 people will cast their votes. Of these, six are councillors of the Municipal Corporation and the remaining 32 are delegates from the five districts.
