In an attempt to simplify the task of applying for re-evaluation of examination papers for its students, Panjab University (PU) has launched an online facility for the same. The varsity will now be able to furnish the results of re-evaluation within a month’s time.
Earlier, the manual process of re-evaluation used to take nearly four months for completion. An application would first be sent to the Computer Centre for verification of the student’s details and then forwarded to the Secrecy Branch. The whole process would take 20 days.
“If during verification, some errors were found, the students would have to re-apply. But with this online system in place, the requests will automatically be checked on a daily basis,” said Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examinations at PU.
A student is also not required to submit his/her original Details Marksheet Card (DMC). “The students are just required to login with their IDs and select the subject for which they wish for a re-evaluation. The DMC is now maintained online, and the verification process will also take place online by matching their records,” added Singh.
Additionally, the students can submit the re-evaluation fees online. The system also allows the students to check the status of their applications along with the fee status.
The university is also looking to integrate the re-evaluation process with the students’ results by furnishing it online. The university is also attempting to get the support of examiners, so as to send the re-evaluation papers to them directly. “Our target is to make the entire examination system paperless within the next two years,” said Singh.
