AMBALA: Five persons accused of burning alive an elderly man of Shehzadpur village were sentenced to life imprisonment here on Thursday. Judge Bimlesh Tanwar also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on each of them. On February 26,2008,the five accused Rulia Ram,Pardeep,Pala,Rakesh and Rajesh had waylaid Mam Chand while he was going to his fields. They sprinkled petrol and set him on fire. He succumbed to his burn injuries at PGIMER,Chandigarh.
BJP protest against
petrol price hike
AMBALA: BJP workers,led by former MLA Jasbir Malaur,gathered at the old sessions court chowk and held a demonstration against the increase in petrol prices. They burnt an effigy of Union Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy and demanded his resignation.
Rs 2 lakh looted
from filling station
AMBALA: Youths armed with sharp-edged weapons looted Rs 2 lakh from Ranjitnagar filling station,Ambala City,on the NH-1 on Wednesday night and injured the owner of the station. A case has been registered.
Case of abduction registered
CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Police on Thursday registered a case of abduction against an unknown person after the father of a 21-year-old girl alleged that her daughter had been abducted. Initially,Malkit Singh,the father of Manjit Kaur,told the police that her daughter had gone missing. She had gone to Government College of Girls,Sector 11,Chandigarh,to appear in an examination. A resident of Kharar,the girl was reportedly accompanied by her friend. Later in the day,the father lodged a complaint that her daughter had been abducted.
