CHANDIGARH: A special working committee meeting of Chandigarh Business Council,was held on Tuesday to discuss the issue of building bylaws notices being sent by Estate Office to traders. The members stated that in case the Administration does not stop sending notices a bandh would be held along with the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal,Industrial Association and other trader associations of the city. The members were critical of Chandigarh Administration for being unduly tough and harassing traders though the site is allotted for commercial usage and also plan approved for the same. It was also pointed out that Chandigarh Administration has no jurisdiction to enact such laws without consent of Parliament as all levies,taxes,among others should have prior approval from the Centre.

PGIMER attendant body polls held

CHANDIGARH: The annual elections to the PGIMER Hospital Attendants Association was held on Tuesday and following have been elected: president Gurmail Singh,general secretary Rakesh Kanojia,senior vice president Balwinder Singh,vice president Rakesh Sharma,secretary Kailash Joshi,additional secretary S K Pandey,propaganda secretary D Kumar,press secretary Raj Kumar Mehra and cashier Kuljit Kaur.

Cleanliness drive carried out

CHANDIGARH: A cleanliness drive was carried by the councillor Saurabh Joshi along with 30 sweepers at the Khuda Lahora colony. Parks,footpaths,all the lanes and N- Choe were cleaned in part I and II of the colony. Issues concerning the maintenance of the roads,regular water supply,electricity and sewerage were also taken up during a meeting with the Resident Welfare Association of the Khuda Lahora Colony. Demands of a Community centre,dispensary,school and beautification of N- Choe were put forward to Joshi.

Hit-and -run: One killed at Sector 49

CHANDIGARH: A pedestrian was killed in a hit and run case after being hit by an Innova car in Sector 49 near Santoshi Mata Temple on Tuesday. According to police,the car with the last number 677,rammed into the pedestrian,said to be in his mid-30s,and reportedly crushed him. He was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital(GMCH),Sector 32,where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. The deceased was yet to be identified.
