Chandigarh: S K Sharma,father of Vivek Sharma,Manager,Space Marketing,The Indian Express,passed away on December 26 after a prolonged illness. He was 66 and had retired from the Central Defense Accounts. The kriya will be held at their residence in Kharar on January 5 between 1 pm and 2 pm.
Two women killed in separate incidents
Ambala: Two women were killed in separate incidents in Ambala in the last 24 hours. While was done to death by her husband,the other fell victim to group rivalry. Kamlesh (51),a resident of Sector 9 HUDA Colony,was killed by her husband Rajbir,a retired policeman,over a domestic issue. Kamlesh was hit with rod which proved fatal. The deceased had called her son when the husband started fighting with her. Her son arrived and found his mother dead. The police have arrested the accused. In the second incident,middle-aged woman Charanjit Kaur was attacked by a group of residents who nursed an enmity against her husband Ram Chander. Ram Chander in his complaint had alleged that 8-9 persons had forcibly entered his house and attacked his son with sharp-edged weapons. His mother Charanjit had come to his rescue but was attacked by one Subhash and others with daggers and knives. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Naraingarh but was referred to the PGI in Chandigarh in a serious condition. She died on her way. The police have registered a case.
Tele-consultations up from 45 to 360 a month: PHSC
Mohali: Telemedicine trend is fast picking up in Punjab as the number of tele-consultations have gone up from mere 45 per month in 2009 to 360 monthly average in the current year, said Punjab Health Systems Corporation (PHSC) Managing Director (MD) Raji P Srivastava after inaugurating the fourth national workshop on Telemedicine today and tomorrow Practical telemedicine organised by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) at its campus in Mohali.In her address,she said the public-owned healthcare delivery system in Punjab had eventually opened up to the IT applications with the technologies like telemedicine gradually finding way into the mainstream healthcare delivery system. Under the telemedicine project,several Civil Hospitals in Punjab have been linked with their main referral hospital PGI in Chandigarh. She hoped that this upward trend of using IT in healthcare would continue and will help improve the quality of health of the residents of Punjab. Preeti Abrol,who represented C-DAC Executive Director,in her key note address,spoke about various software solutions developed by C-DAC and highlighted the role of telemedicine in present healthcare scenario. She also informed that the telemedicine solution Sanjeevani developed by C-DAC was supposedly the only certified telemedicine application in the country. Dr Harleen K Sandhu,Assistant Director,Telemedicine,PHSC,made a presentation on Punjabs statewide telemedicine network. She shared her experience with the participants and detailed the initiatives taken by PHSC for successful management of the telemedicine network.
