College Teachers’ union to go on mass casual leave on Oct 3

Chandigarh: Punjab and Chandgiarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) will go on a mass casual leave rally and court arrest on October 3. It will be the first day of session of Punjab Assembly,to remind the members of the Assembly that they had unanimously passed a resolution moved by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to sanction the benefit of pension and gratuity to the employees of aided colleges. But the decision to this date remains on paper. In addition to pension-gratuity scheme,PCCTU is demanding release of pay scale arrears,better service conditions and security of service for staff working on unaided posts and in unaided colleges,lifting of the ban on recruitment and extension in the date for completion of refresher courses as per the recommendations of UGC.

Six held in Mauli Jagran murder case

Chandigarh: THE Manimajra police claimed to have arrested the accused in the Mauli Jagran murder case that took place on Sunday.

The police have arrested six persons in relation to the case. The arrested have been identified as Surinder (45),Deepak (30),Manoj (25),Batista (30) and Pavan (30) all residents of Mauli Jagran. Another accused Arjun (25) who was also arrested resides in Ram Darbar. Many of the arrested have a criminal background. The accused will be produced in court on Tuesday. On Sunday,the complainant Arjun,a resident of Charan Singh Colony,Manimajra,Chandigarh had alleged that Sanjeev,Ritik,Chiku,Surinder,Thakur,came to his house and stabbed his mother Bhanwati,brother Bhim and paternal uncle Nanku and also snatched away the gold chain from his mother. Bhanwati was severely injured in the attack and was taken to Panchkula Government hospital where she was declared brought dead. A case has been registered under sections 302,307,379,356,34 of the IPC against the accused.

Man drowns in Dhanas

Chandigarh: A 30-year old resident of Dhanas village drowned in a pond after making an unsuccessful attempt to swim across. The deceased has been identified as Bheem,a native of Uttar Pradesh and working as a cobbler in the village. According to Inspector Gurmukh Singh,the deceased was an alcoholic and suffering from Tuberculosis. He had been advised not to consume alcohol by doctors. The villagers saw his body floating in the pond and informed the police who rushed him to General Hospital,Sector 16. He was declared dead on arrival.

Motorcycle stolen from Sector 27 market

Chandigarh: The sector 26 police station registered a case of bike theft on the complaint of Sunil Kumar,a resident of Sector 20,Panchkula. The complainant had told the police that his motorcycle,No. HR-22F-6432 was stolen in front of Rehri Market,Sector 27,Chandigarh on September 18,2011. The case is under investigation.
