A person can vote in the SGPC elections by showing his driving licence,pan card,ration card,arms licence,SC/ST certificate,old age pension card,kisan pass book and passport in case they do not have a voter identity card.

I-cards can be used for voting in SGPC polls

Sas Nagar: Varun Roojam,Deputy Commissioner,SAS Nagar,has said that in Kharar,Dera Bassi and Mohali,a person can vote in the SGPC elections by showing his driving licence,pan card,ration card,arms licence,SC/ST certificate,old age pension card,kisan pass book and passport in case they do not have a voter identity card. A person will also be allowed to vote by showing his latest photo which has been attested by a first-class government officer.

SC inaugurates first-aid training camp

Sas Nagar: The Deputy Commissioner,SAS Nagar,inaugurated a first-aid and Home nursing camp in the SIA Bhavan,Phase 7,on Thursday. The camp is being organised by the District Red Cross Society for the youngsters. Addressing the gathering,the DC said that first-aid training is essential for everyone as it helps in saving valuable lives in accidents.

Western Command marks 64th raising day

Panchkula: Lt Gen SR Ghosh,GOC-in-C,Western Command,and Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi (retd),former Army Commander of Western Command,laid wreaths at ‘Veer Smiriti’,the War Memorial at Chandimandir,to pay homage to the martyrs,commemorating its 64th Raising Day on Thursday. Senior officers and other ranks also paid tributes joining at this solemn occasion. Inmates from Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre,SAS Nagar,also attended the ceremony as Indian Army is celebrating this year as ‘Year of Disabled Soldiers’.

Sept 18: Sec 144 imposed in Mohali

Sas Nagar: The Deputy Commissioner,Mohali,has imposed Section 144 CrPc in the district on September 18 in view of the SGPC elections. Carrying of weapons,explosives,sharp-edged weapons and inflammable material including tridents. Army,paramilitary,police and people engaged for security purposes will be exempted.

Punjab governor launches book

Chandigarh: Punjab governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Patil,on Thursday,launched the book “Winning over Diabetes”,written by Dr Sarvinder Gandhok. The book traces the history of the disease and its early cure theories,its causes,some preventive measures and its effects on various organs.

It also contains information regarding various treatments available in India and diet for patients.

Chandigarh: Sunita Malhotra,Dietician,at the Advanced Cardiac Centre,PGIMER has been awarded “Young Investigator Award” for her paper titled “Impact of Nutrition Management in patients treated with Irradiation. Is the nutritional Intervention useful?” which was presented in the 16th World Congress on Clinical Nutrition (WCCN) and 6th International Congress on Cardiovascular Diseases from September 11-14 held at New Delhi.

Proclaimed offender Nagla arrested

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh police on Thursday arrested a Proclaimed Offender (PO) Avtar Singh Saini alias Nagla,a resident of Mohali from Sector 56. Nagla is also wanted in separate criminal cases at Zirakpur Punjab,and Rohtak,Haryana. The Station House Officer of Sector Sector 39 police station,Inspector Charanjit Singh said that Nagla was arrested after a specific intelligence input. Nagla made headlines in April,2011 when he climbed up an eucalyptus tree and stayed there for a few days in Zirakpur.

National conclave at UIET

Chandigarh: The students of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET),Panjab University,had an insight of the industry through the national conclave on “Science and Technology in India: Opportunities and Challenges” that kick-started at the Panjab University’s Law Auditorium today. The two-day event is being organised by University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET).
