PU students protest against deferring of reappear exams

Members of Panjab University Student Union (PUSU) today held a protest outside the office of Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of Panjab University (PU),opposing the university’s decision over holding the reappear examinations for science departments in December and not in July this year. The protesters claimed that the university’s move will affect more than 500 students in various science departments. They further asserted that till last year,students were being allowed to take the re-appear examinations in July. This made it possible for most of them to enroll further in August after clearing the compartments. The protestors included about 50 students from science departments.

Model UN conference to be held from Aug 4 to 6

Bhavan Vidyalaya in Sector 27 will hold the Model United Nations (MUN) Conference from August 4 to 6,witnessing the simulation of four committees: General Assembly,Security Council,Environment Programme and Commission on Status of Women. About 220 students from 30 schools all over India will take part in the conference. As many as 120 students from 15 schools in the tricity are being trained at the Bhavan Vidyalaya. The students are being acquainted with the flow of debate,rules and procedures. Subsequently they would be allotted countries and committees for a mock session to help them groom their intellectual abilities.

PU Hindi,Sanskrit admissions open

Department of Hindi has been running a diploma course in English-Hindi translation for last 30 years. The last date for application for this programme this year is July 22,2011. The entrance test for the course will be held on July 27 at 10 am. Further on,interviews will be conducted for final admission. There are a total of 68 seats in the course. Being a part-time course,it allows students to pursue any other course simultaneously. Classes will commence in August. The Department of Sanskrit will conduct its aptitude test and interview for admission to M Phil in Sanskrit will be held on July 28 at 10 am in the department.

PUTA elections to be held on Aug 18

The Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) in its meeting held today decided to hold PUTA elections on August 18. The last date for the receipt of nomination papers is August 6. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on August 8. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is August 10 and the final list of candidates will be published on August 12.
