Class XII student stabbed

A Class XII student of Paragon Senior Secondary School was stabbed on Monday in an incident of road rage. The victim,Vishal Jaiswal (17),has been admitted to a local private hospital. His father Yoginder Jaiswal said that Vishal had gone to the market to get their car repaired and. On the way,he hit a motorcycle. “When Vishal got out of the car to see the extent of the damage,the biker caught hold of him and attacked him with a knife,leaving him seriously injured. The biker then fled.”

Woman found drugged,injured

A 26-year-old woman,whose face carried injury marks,was found drugged near Majri Chowk on Wednesday morning. Sector 5 police station SHO Om Prakash said,“No case has been registered so far,as she was not in a position to say anything. She was neither sure of her whereabouts,nor was she ready to get herself medically examined.”

1,100 students participate in IT workshop

Around 1,100 students participated in an interactive session on Information Technology organised by the Jaypee University of Information Technology in Waknaghat. The students took part in various online and offline events,including lectures and games.

Congress threat ‘childish’: BJP

The BJP on Wednesday dismissed the Congress’ threat to stop them from from surrounding Union Minister Pawan Bansal’s residence on March 12 as “childish”. Senior leader Harmohan Dhawan said that the party will organise a massive demonstration. Meanwhile,various Congress leaders held meetings on Wednesday to extend support to Bansal and stated that they will not allow BJP workers to protest near his residence.

Vikram Hans takes over as city chief of CII

Vikram Hans,Managing Director of Multi Overseas (I) Pvt Ltd,has taken over as the chairman of the Chandigarh Council of Confederation of Indian Industry for the year 2011-2012. Sameer Goel,Delivery Manager of Infosys Technologies Ltd has been elected as the vice-chairman. The Council adopted “World-class Amenities and Habitat in Chandigarh” (WAH! Chandigarh) as its theme for next year.

Two dead in separate road accidents

Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in different parts of Kharar on Wednesday evening,the police said. Jasbir Singh — a resident of Sukhgarh village near Mohali — was mowed down by a recklessly driven car on Landran-Sirhind Road near Landran village. In the second mishap,Gurmeet Singh was run over by an unknown vehicle on National Highway-95 near Kharar. The police have registered separate cases of causing death by rash and negligent driving.

3 taken ill after consuming hostel food

Three students of Government Women Polytechnic were admitted to the civil hospital in a critical condition on Wednesday after consuming food provided by the hostel authorities. The three — Tanu,Sukhsimran and Kanika — have alleged that despite repeated requests made to the hostel superintendent,the meals used to be consistently sub-standard. The warden,however,denied the charges,saying that the menu in the hostel was prepared according to rules and regulation of the institute.

Wild animal attacks sheep

The animal that attacked a woman working in the fields in Ghel village on Tuesday,continued to spread panic among locals,after it attacked more sheep in the area. The animal has reportedly killed 20 sheep in the last week. While forest department officials are yet to confirm the species,locals suspect that the animal is a leopard that has strayed into the area.

Seminar on distance education held

The University School of Open Learning (USOL) organised a two-day seminar on “Distance education and national mission of education through Information Communication Technology for Sustainable Development”,to mark the completion of 40 years of distance learning. The seminar laid emphasis on how latest technologies like 3G,broadband,satellite communication and video conferencing will go a long way in spreading education using distance learning methods.

March to save the girl child

On the occasion of “International Women’s Day”,the staff and mothers of students of Blossom Convent School,NayaGaon held an awareness march to save girl child in Sector 17. The march was aimed at creating awareness towards the betterment of the family unit and society as a whole.
