2 cops suspended for lodging DDR for handsets late

Chandigarh:Two Chandigarh Police constables were suspended for lodging the missing report of a wireless handset of a PCR motorcycle two days after the incident. According to a police officer,the constables Somvir Singh and Pardeep Singh lost the wireless set issued to them on Sunday but two days later lodged a daily diary report (DDR) reporting the matter at the sector 34 police station. “In view of negligence and dereliction of duty,the two were suspended today with immediate effect and have been sent to Police Lines. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against them,” the officer said.

Classical music,free bus rides for tourists

Chandigarh:Morning walkers to Sukhna Lake were welcomed by the strains of a classical morning raga as part of the Tourism Week Celebrations in the city. Tourists — both foreign and domestic — were welcomed at the Railway Station and the Chandigarh Airport. The day unfolded with a wonderful classical musical performance “Surnandan” by Subhash Ghosh at Sukhna Lake. CITCO arranged to provide complimentary rides on the Hop on-Hop Off tourist coach for tourists today. Special discounts were offered at CITCO hotels. In the evening,Aditya Narayan enthralled the audience with his songs.

SPIC MACAY organises Dhrupad performance

Chandigarh:A classical music event was organised by SPIC MACAY,(Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth),Chandigarh Chapter,at the PEC University Of Technology. The performers,Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha,are among the most active performers of Dhrupad,the oldest vocal genre in Hindustani classical music,in Indian and international circuits. They were joined by Akhilesh Gundecha on Pakhwaj and Aruna Gundecha and Renu Gundecha on Tanpura.

Social welfare board holds orientation meet

Chandigarh:The Chandigarh social welfare board organised a day long orientation programme for the councellors and functionaries of the Family Counselling centres running in Chandigarh. Over 35 delegates participated in the programme which focused on laws for women,protection of women from domestic violence and the legal remedies available to them.
