Sharma Panchkula Bar body president
Panchkula: Nardev Sharma was elected president of the District Bar Association of Panchkula here on Friday. He received 227 votes whereas his opponent Jagpal Singh got 199 votes. Naresh Sharma was elected treasurer with 296 votes whereas his rival Jaswant Singh received 131 votes. Vice-President Mukesh Kumar,Secretary Kamal Sharma and Joint Secretary Jyoti got elected unopposed.
PPSC chairman in critical state
MOHALI: Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Chairman S K Sinha,a retired IAS officer,is in critical condition at Fortis Hospital,Mohali. He was admitted to the hospital on April 8 with acute respiratory problems and put on a ventilator,disclosed a hospital source. Though his condition continues to be critical,he has shown some signs of improvement over the past three-four days, said hospital sources. His treatment at the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is being supervised by Critical Care Section Head Dr Amit Kumar Mandal. Since his family insists on absolute confidentiality,we cannot reveal much, added hospital sources.
Burail jail inmate attempts suicide
CHANDIGARH: A Burail jail inmate Surjit Mann, on Friday attempted suicide by slitting his wrist and neck in the jain,with a sharp-edged object. He was admitted to GMCH-32. According to the police,Mann,was arrested by the police on charges of criminal intimidation,on the complaint lodged by a local resident,in police station-3. He was arrested on charges of threatening a person and lodged in jail on April 15. Prima-facie it appears,he got some depression attack,thus took such a step,said one of the investigating officials. Another case,on charges of attempting suicide,was registered against Mann,today,by Chandigarh Police.
2 snatchings reported in city
CHANDIGARH: Two incidents of snatching took place in the city and in both cases the crime was committed by the motorcycle-borne youth. In first case,two unknown motorcycle-borne youth snatched a mobile phone from Rohit Kumar,resident of 553,DMC,Chandigarh,when he was moving in Sector 15 on Thursday. The cops have registered a case under section 356,379 IPC at police station 11. In another incident Shanti Rani of 2702,Sector-56,Chandigarh,alleged that her purse was snatched by motorcycle-borne youth near the Sector 7-8 crossing. The purse contained Rs 2,400 and a mobile phone. The cops have registered a case under Sections 356,379 IPC at police station 19,Chandigarh.
CIIs Expo Kitchen starts
Chandigarh: The 11th edition of CIIs Expo Kitchen and Beyond 2011 started on Friday at Himachal Bhawan,Sector 28. Padma Shri Neelam Mansingh Chowdhry,a renowned theatre artist inaugurated the exhibition on modern kitchen concepts. Returning to the city for the 11th consecutive year,the annual show on kitchen equipment showcases a varied product portfolio. Spread over 50 stalls,there were products from 34 participant companies. A recipe contest would be held that would be judged by Kandla Nijhowne,one of the finalists in Master Chef India Show.
