Quarkcity engineer murder trial: Proceedings adjourned to March 7
MOHALI: Further proceedings in the five-year-old infamous murder case of QuarkCity engineer Sukhwinderjit Singh was on Monday adjourned to March 7 by a district court in Mohali. Additional District and Sessions Judge S K Garg posted the matter for hearing next Monday.
7-year-old dies,4 of a family hurt in mishaps
MOHALI: A seven-year-old girl was killed while four members of a family sustained serious injuries in separate accidents in Mohali district on Monday. Taranpreet Kaur,daughter of Jagtar Singh of Bhankharpur village,was mowed down by a truck on the Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway-21. The police have booked the truck driver for causing death due to rash and negligent driving. In the second incident,four members of a family from Nandpur Kalor village in Fatehgarh Sahib were seriously injured when a vehicle collided head-on with their Mahindra Logan car. They were returning home from a wedding in Chandigarh. The accident took place on Chandigarh-Mohali-Landran-Fatehgarh Sahib Road. The injured Surinder Singh,Sikander Kaur,Surinder Kaur and Gursharan were rushed to a nearby hospital.
One killed,4 hurt in cylinder blast in Patiala
PATIALA: One person was killed and four others sustained injuries in a cylinder blast that took place on the outskirts of the town on Monday. Balwant Singh,an autorickshaw driver,died when the welding cylinder at Dhiman Welding Works at Bhadson octroi post burst. The injured have been identified as Jagdeep Singh,Randhir Singh,Dhani Ram and Balbir Singh.
Census 2011: Population enumeration ends
CHANDIGARH: Population enumeration for Census 2011 ended has come to an end in the city. Those who could not appear for enumeration between February 9 to 28 can get themselves enumerated from March 1 to 5. The residents can contact on toll free number 1800-180-2039 between 8 am to 4 pm till March 5.
Theme park: Retd justice may act as arbitrator
CHANDIGARH: The UT Administration has proposed the name of Justice (Retd) V S Aggarwal as an arbitrator for settling the dispute of controversial amusement-cum-theme park. In case Justice Aggarwal refuses to be appointed as arbitrator,Justice (Retd) Amrit Lal Bahri may be appointed in his place,the Administration has submitted. On the other hand,M/s Unitech Limited the company and petitioner in the case has proposed the name of Justice (Retd) R K Nehru as arbitrator. The Punjab and Haryana High court will take a call as to who will be appointed the arbitrator.
English Access Microsholarship Programme
CHANDIGARH: To enhance the English language skills of students so that they have a competitive edge in academic and professional life,a two-year English Access Microsholarship Programme,which involves teaching 100 students between 14 and 16 years of age,was launched at SGGS College,Sector 26. Officials from the US Embassy in New Delhi,including Michael Palletier,Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs and Diplomacy,were present at the function. Palletier presented enrollment certificates to 55 girls and 45 boys of Bapu Dham Colony on the occasion.
