Sector 23 ATM booth damaged in fire

Chandigarh: An ATM booth of Union Bank of India in Sector 23 was damaged in a fire on Friday afternoon. Police suspect a short-circuit to be the cause of the fire. Incharge of Sector 22 police post Rajeev Kumar said,“Bank officials were informed about the incident and they managed to recover all the currency from the ATM machine.” A fire official said,“The fire emerged from the back cabin of the ATM where the batteries are kept to run the machine. We controlled the fire in 30 minutes and were also able to save the adjoining shops.”

Impersonator’s driver arrested

Chandigarh: A police team from Himachal Pradesh on Friday arrested a driver of a woman,allegedly impersonating as an IAS cadre officer,from Chandigarh. Police sources said that the impersonator managed to escape a special team of the Himachal police. Police sources said that the driver was arrested from Sector 11 and he is being questioned.

2 cops get appreciation letters for PU polls

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration on Friday appreciated two senior police officers for the “successful accomplishment” of annual election of Student Council of Punjab University and its other ten affiliated colleges held on September 2. According to police spokesman,the Home Secretary,UT,Chandigarh Ram Niwas,gave appreciation letters to Additional Superintendent of Police (Central) Deshraj Singh and Deputy Superintendent of Police,CID Anil Joshi for the successful accomplishment of polls in the PU.

FIR lodged against Sanskriti School librarian

Panchkula: An FIR has been registered against Sadhu Ram,librarian at Sector 20-based Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School,Panchkula,for his indecent behaviour towards girl students. Inspector Dharmbir Singh,SHO of Sector 20 Police Station said,“We have registered the FIR under Section 354 (molestation) and Section 294 (for obscene acts or songs) of IPC.” The Department of Secondary Education,Haryana,placed Sadhu Ram under suspension on September 8 and directed the principal of the school to lodge an FIR against him for his indecent behaviour towards girl students.

Rs 4 lakh stolen in Sector 9

Panchkula: A theft of around Rs 4 lakh in a house of Sector 9 has been reported in the city. As per complainant,Veena Lee,left for her shop in Sector 17 at about 11 am on September 8. When she came back around 8 pm,she found the main lock broken and the door was locked from the inside. She thought that some one was inside and called the police,but no one picked up the call. “I then called my neighbour who is a retired DSP from Chandigarh,Subhah Sagar. He called up the SHO. The police came around 9.30 pm,” said Lee. When the house was opened,it had been ransacked,“Four designer watches,two digital cameras and a computer monitor was stolen,” she said.

KV headmistress receives National Award

Chandigarh: Anita Pathak,headmistress of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) High Grounds received a warm welcome on her return from New Delhi after receiving the National Award from President Pratibha Patil on September 5. Principal of the school,S P Shergill congratulated Pathak. The students also congratulated her by presenting a cultural programme in her honour.
