Around eleven students of PEC University of Technology were arrested on Thursday morning for protesting outside the institute administration block in violation of Section 144 that had been imposed.

Protesting engineering students held

Chandigarh: Around eleven students of PEC University of Technology were arrested on Thursday morning for protesting outside the institute administration block in violation of Section 144 that had been imposed. THe UT Administration had imposed section 144 in and around the PEC University of Technology on Thursday. The students were protesting against the promotion policy of the institute and two have been sitting on a hunger strike for the past week. Around 30 students were not promoted from first year to second year,this year. The students were demanding the authorities to withdraw this decision and amend the policy.

Golden Bells’ kids bag 4 medals

Sas Nagar: Students of Golden Bells Public School,Sector 77,Mohali excelled in the 15th District (Senior,Junior,Sub-Junior & Pee Wee Group) at the 9th Muye Taekwondo Championship. The two-day championship was held at Guru Nanak VBT Polytechnics,Industrial Area,Phase-1,Mohali. Students of the school participated in various categories and bagged four medals. Devinder Pal Singh and Tirath Singh bagged gold while Mandeep Kumar and Harsimran Singh won silver medals in their categories.

Science quiz held at Sarthak school

Panchkula: A block-level science quiz competition,organised by Haryana State Council of Science and Technology,was held at Sarthak Government Integrated Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 12 A on Thursday. The CBSE affiliated schools participated in the competition and Chamanlal DAV Sector 11 stood first followed by Hansraj Public School,Sector 6 and DAV,Sector 8.

Mid-day meal sent for testing

Panchkula: Samples of wheat,to be used for making mid-day meal at Sarthak Government Integrated Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 12 A,has been sent for testing at a government laboratory. The wheat stock was suspected of being old and damaged. Wheat at the school was provided by the Haryana State Federation of Consumers’ Cooperative Wholesale Stores (CONFED). School authorities said that they had doubts over the quality of the wheat and sent a sample to District Elementary Education Officer,Anita Anand. The result of the sample is expected soon. About 500 students take a mid-day meal at Sarthak school,which was the first English medium school started by Haryana government.

Lawrence School wins folk dance

Sas Nagar: Lawrence Public School,Mohali won the Qawwali competition in the Fanta Fiesta 2011 contest held at AKSIPS sector 40,Chandigarh. A total of 13 teams from the tricity and neighboring cities of Pinjore,Nabha and Ambala participated in the event. The judges at the contest comprised Varinder Bachchan and Brijesh Ahuja. The next competiton under the contest will be “ Thematic Drama” to be held in Manav Mangal Smart School,Sector 64,Mohali on September 2. The key participants for the drama competitionn include Delhi Public School,Sector 40,AKSIPS Sector 41,Chandigarh,Mukat Public School,Rajpura,Kundan International School Chandigarh and Hansraj Public School Panchkula.
