Pritam Singh new Baba Makhan Foundation president
CHANDIGARH: Pritam Singh Narangpur was elected as the new president of Baba Makhan Shah Lobana Foundation,defeating his opponent Sarjit Singh by a margin of 101 votes,today. Disclosing this,Major Mehar Singh,former president of the foundation said out of the total 1079 votes polled,585 votes were polled to Pritam Singh and 484 to Sarjit Singh. The polling was done at Baba Makhan Shah Lobana Bhawan,Sector 30.
Chain snatching attempt on 80-yr-old
Panchkula: Two scooter-borne youths attempted to snatch the chain of an 80-year-old woman,Acharan Rani Bansal,who resides in Sector 9. She had gone for a morning walk near Yuvanika park,when the incident occurred. The duo,however,fled with a gold pendant that had fallen down. The police are yet to register a case.
Flood control rooms set up in Panchkula
Panchkula: With the onset of monsoon,flood control rooms have been set up at the district,sub divisional and tehsil levels to monitor the flood situation. The staff of various departments have been put on round the clock duty to gather information about rain in different areas of the district.
Homage to Dey
Chandigarh: The Human Rights Cell of the BJPs city unit held a signature campaign and a candle light vigil at Sector 17 Plaza to condemn the murder of journalist J Dey. People gathered at the plaza to pay their tributes to the journalist who was shot dead in Mumbai. BJP MPsAvinash Rai Khanna and Satya Pal Jain took part in the protest and strongly condemned the incident.
UT creators furniture to be auctioned
Chandigarh: Heritage furniture designed by the creators of the city will go under the hammer at the Paris-based auction house Artcurial on June 28. As many as five lots of furniture designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret during their stay in the city will be auctioned.The items include a file rack,a pair of stools ,a Swiss pavilion,a wood seat and a coffee table.
Retired audit officers hold meeting
CHANDIGARH:The Association of retired officers of Indian Audit and accounts department highlighted their achievements and demands during their 17 th annual function. The association honoured 48 senior members. YP Doshi,general secretary while presenting the annual report highlighted the various demands that the rectification of DA formula,,parity in pension,posting of additional medical officer.
Health centre served notice
Chandigarh: A health centre under the aegis of Pushpanjali Janhit Charitable Trust has been served notices to shut down operations as it was being run in an industrial plot. The health centre has been functioning in the area since 2008. The officials of the trust claims that they have been providing services free of cost to the workers at the industrial area as well as their families.
182 donate blood
CHANDIGARH: More than 182 employees of the IT companies operating from the DLF campus donated blood at a camp organised by DLF. Chandigarh IT Director Yogesh Kumar was the chief guest while GMCH-32 Director Dr Raj Bahadur and Chandigarh AIDS Control Society Project Director Dr Vinita Gupta were also present.
