SBI employees on two-day strikefrom November 25
Chandigarh: The All-India State Bank Officers Federation and All-India State Bank of India Staff Federation have decided to observe two-day strike on November 25 and 26 to seek the fulfillment of their demands. The demands include payment of undistributed part of the 17.5 per cent wage cost to employees and officers as pay. Payment of additional pay and allowance to employees and officers equivalent to the cost incurred by the industry towards second option on pension. The federations are also demanding improvements in superannuation benefits.
GGDSD College gets Rs 70 lakh grant
Chandigarh: Under the Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure Programme-2010 of the Department of Science and Technology,New Delhi,the GGDSD College has been granted Rs 70 lakh for strengthening teaching and research facilities in all its science departments. With this,the college has become the only college under the Panjab University to have been this grant. With this,the departments of biotechnology,bio-informatics,microbiology,biochemistry,chemistry,botany,zoology,physics,information technology,mathematics,and statistics of the college,would now receive the first installment of this grant during 2010-11. This will go a long way in augmenting the quality of teaching and research facilities. The funds would also be utilized in enhancing the infrastructure facilities of the college,including equipment,computational and networking facilities in the computer labs,books,e-learning labs,etc.
Workshop on employability held
Chandigarh: Employability is an issue that is of national concern as students of today are highly educated but the industry finds them unemployable. The need for the workshop was felt as in this day and age of multitude career choices the children need to be informed about the need for picking a career that suits their interest and lets them earn a living without it seeming to be a chore, said Venkat Matoory,CEO,Junior Achievement,India.
He shared his views during a workshop on Employability conducted at Vivek High School Sector 38. A team of officials from KPMG,Gurgoan – Amit Bhandari,Hemu Narang and Romita Mitra also conducted the workshop.
World Radiography Day celebrated at PGI
Chandigarh: The Department of Radio-Diagnosis of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in association with the Indian Association of Radiological Technologists celebrated the World Radiography Day by way of a poster exhibition,quiz competition and culture program. This function was inaugurated by Head Department of Radiodiagnosis,Prof N Khandelwal. A large number of delegates and students from Delhi,PGIMER,GMCH,GMSH and neighboring state of Punjab and Haryana attended this function. During this occasion executive committee meeting of Indian Association of Radiological Technologists (IART) was also held and it was unanimously decided to appeal to the government of India,Ministry of Health for the formation of registration council of radiological technologists,which is still pending in the Parliament.
Training programme for teachers starts today
Chandigarh: The British Council is organising a Vocational education and training programme for the vulnerable and marginalised groups in Sirsa and Sitapur. The first phase of teacher training for English language skills is being organised by the British Council from November 9 to 13 at Hotel Bella Vista at Sector 5 in Panchkula. Nearly,50 teachers have been selected to undergo this training in the first phase. A selected group of 10-15 top-level decision makers from Ministry of Labour,State and District administration,Principals of Industrial Training Institutes and Polytechnics of the Sirsa district and 55 teachers of the district selected from Government Senior Secondary Schools,Industrial Training Institutes and Polytechnics are likely to participate.
