Canada to issue more visas
Chandigarh: The Canada government has increased the number of visas issued under provincial nominee programs (PNPs) giving an opportunity for those to get a permanent residency,who are not included in the 29 priority occupation list (POL). WWICS Chairman Col B S Sandhu (Retd) said under PNPs,the number of visas had been increased by 15 to 20 per cent. This has opened options for permanent residency for those who do not qualify for the same under new federal rules. The new federal rule has limited 1,000 immigrants per occupation among 29 occupations enlisted in POL, he said.
National Cerebral Palsy Day observed
Chandigarh: Children living with Cerebral Palsy,their parents,doctors,medical experts and rehab professionals today took an unequivocal pledge to fight this disability,which affects mostly children,on the occasion of the First National Cerebral Palsy Day. Indian Academy of Cerebral Palsy (IACP),an academic body formed by doctors and rehab professionals from across the country,observed October 3 as the first National Cerebral Palsy Day to spread awareness about Cerebral Palsy,which has emerged as the commonest cause of childhood disability in India. Even though several medicinal remedies are available to cope with this condition,lack of awareness creates problems for the patients and families.
Multi-utility card issued by Sainik organisation
Chandigarh: Sainik Welfare Organization-India has started issuing Sainik Welfare Card (SWC) which is a multi-utility card that provides a series of benefits. The beneficiaries would include the members and their dependents as well as those who want to join any planned or ongoing projects. SWC provides benefits like rebate in housing schemes,scholarships for children,financial assistance in case of casualty and cash awards for excellence in sports.
Founders Day celebrations enter Day 2 at Sanwar school
Chandigarh: The second day of the Founders Day celebrations at Lawrence School in Sanawar witnessed a number of events,in which schoolchildren participated and showed their talent in various fields. An athletic meet,a concert and a tattoo show performed in the military tradition of the school were organised in the day-long celebrations at the school.
An athletic meet was held,which was presided by Lt General (Retd) SS Chahal,a distinguished alumnus of the school,as guest-of-honour. The athletes displayed the spirit of Never Give In. Aman Suyal and Himani Rana were declared as the Best Athletes among boys and girls while Shivalik House won the overall Champions Trophy. This was followed by the parent-teacher-meet. Hockey and basketball matches between the present and old Sanawarians were held.
