Ample progress but sanitation needs upgrade

Development in the ward

As many as five bridges have been constructed in the ward. While work on four has been completed,one is still under construction. Old Ropar Road was widened and footpaths constructed. A parking lot was constructed behind Shivalik Gardens. High mast lights have been installed in the garden.

Canal water supply was made available for the residents of the area. Supply of water was previously being done through tubewells. Two community centres are under construction in the ward. The sewerage pipelines in the area were changed. A children park was developed near the Housing Board lightpoint.

In the Modern Housing Complex,a park was developed and benches and play equipment installed. A bus stand has been approved for the area. The primary school in the area will soon get a new building.

Problem Areas

In areas like Govindpura and Shanti Nagar,the residential and commercial area are entwined. The roads are in need of carpeting. Potholes can be seen in certain areas. There is a need for improving the condition of sanitation. A huge tract of vacant space near the market is full of garbage heaps and construction waste.

The construction of the bridge near Housing Board lightpoint has been pending for the past many years. While earlier there was a problem with approval of the plans,thereafter no contractor could be found for construction. The work is to be completed internally by the MC. The residents of the area have complained about the canal water supply being erratic and of low supply.
