All accused in attempted robbery acquitted by Panchkula court

A Panchkula court on Monday acquitted all the five accused in an eighteen-month-old attempt to robbery and Arms Act case.

A Panchkula court on Monday acquitted all the five accused in an eighteen-month-old attempt to robbery and Arms Act case.

Those acquitted were identified as Mahender Singh and Brij Raj Singh,both residents of Bharatpur Rajasthan,Ranjit Goswami of Mungar Bihar,Mohammad Arif of Jalon,Uttar Pradesh and Shahnawaz Kuro of Uttar Pradesh.

The five were acquitted by Additional District and Sessions Judge Kanchan Mahi as the prosecution failed to prove charges against them.

“All the accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence and prosecution failed to prove charges against them,” said advocate Suresh Parashar ,who represented Mahender Singh and Brij Raj Singh in the court.

The case dates back to July 9,2009 when Panchkula police had claimed that they arrested Mahender and Brij Raj on the dividing Sector 27 and 28 on the Panchkula-Barwala National Highway,when the duo were in a car and were attempting to commit robbery. Police claim that the two were arrested after a specific information on late night of July 9,2009.

According to the police the two were found in possession of one carbine,15 cartridges 9mm,one pistol,six cartridges 7.62 mm and one carbine magazine. The police arrested them and cases were registered against under attempt to robbery and arms act.

Police said that during further investigation,Ranjit,Mohammad Arif and Shahnawaz were later also arrested and were the ones who had provided these arms to the two accused. Suresh Parashar said that no evidence was produced by the prosecution that would establish that arms were recovered from the possession of his two clients.
